The Role of Unconditional Love

A rich widow had lost all her money in a business deal and was flat broke. She told her lover, Mullah Nasrudin, about it and asked, “Dear, in spite of the fact that I am not rich any more will you still love me?”
“Certainly, honey,” said Nasrudin, “I will love you always – even though I will probably never see you again.”
This joke shows that true love that is transcendental to all material forms cannot be cultivated in isolation to the spiritual dimension of a person. It is living and loving through awareness that awakens the so much coveted unconditional love – love that transcends all delusions. Unconditional is achieved by cultivating it in our selves first before we can seek it in someone else.
I think this is where the origin of the concept of marriage arose from – where two individuals who have gone deeper inside of themselves and have brought jewels from that inside meet and become One. Love is the most misunderstood concept in the world. Its true meaning has always been replaced with the doctrines of instant gratification hence the low levels of true happiness in many people’s lives.
Thus, the woman in the story above is being told to awaken to the true love that the guy has always offered to her all along, only that she is too absorbed in wealth to see the sweet dewdrops of Unconditional Love.
